Sex & Horror: Why The Mixed Genre Works In Literature & TV/Film

With countless written pages of villainy heartthrobs, the popularity of serial killer shows, and the success of movies featuring creatures that go bump in the night, it’s easy to see that readers and viewers enjoy literary and cinematic thrills and kills. But what makes entertainment like The Interview With the Vampire, The Lost Boys, It Follows, Teeth, Lucifer, You, The Perfection, Velvet Buzzsaw, and The Anita Blake Vampire Hunter series alluring and unforgettable? Perhaps, it’s the sensual nature of the characters and their horrifying transgressions. In this panel, Dicey Grenor (M), Chantell Renee, Jon Guerra, and Kevin A. Ranson will discuss the combined impact of sex and horror in literature and TV/film, what makes an effective scene, whether different mediums require different approaches, why we love the mixed genre as opposed to just horror or just sexy entertainment, and more. **This panel is intended for an adult audience.
